As we enter the last hour of this year’s very first #communitybaseddoulaweek, I wanted to highlight some of the things that #communitybaseddoulas do OUTSIDE of supporting our #birthingfamilies. Advocacy, Collaboration, Trainings, Speaking Engagements, Research Project Work, and so much more! This is why we need to pay community based doulas what they deserve! We need to fund community based organizations with grants from @hrsagov @nihgov. We are in the community….serving our families, advocating for them to be heard, providing support and education, promoting equity in grant funding, collaborating with public health systems all in the effort to make sure our Black and brown birthing parents have a equal chance to the birth and support they deserve. This week has come to an end but the work continues. Please continue to find out how you can support community based doulas to continue the great work that we are doing to improve maternal and infant outcomes in Black, Indigineous, Latinx & other marginalized communities in #fayettevillenc, #northcarolina and across this country. Happy Community Based Doula Week!!!!
Happy Community Based Doula Week!!! (March 29-April 4, 2022). Today marks the start of #communitybaseddoulaweek and I am thrilled that the @cityoffayetteville became the very FIRST city in the entire state of #northcarolina to make a #proclamation to recognize the right of families to have access to a #doula and that community based doulas are essential to improving #maternalhealth outcomes especially #blackmaternalhealth in our community and around the state. We were joined by two other community based organizations, @divinedoulagoddess and @maameinc who have joined Momma’s Village Fayetteville as we work to provide support, advocacy, education and healing to the Black community. What is coming from these three organizations alone? Over 65+ #blackdoulas trained between two communities, community initiatives that provide programs for our families, the very first community-based human milk bank, the creation of a state accreditation and certification for NC CBDS and the participation in a large, 5-year doula research project and finding ways to increase the workforce in our communities by advocating for #doulareimbursement and the allocation of funds to support our organizations to hire doulas in the community. We are excited about the work we are doing and we hope that you are too. Follow each of the organizations mentioned to keep up with how we make a difference in maternal health in #fayettevillenc #durhamnc and across the entire state from the mountains to the coast!
